Speed up the creation of your electronic traces by using a double needle on your home sewing machine to sew parallel traces!
Needle size from left to right:
2mm size 90
3mm size 90
4mm size 90
6mm size 100
The resistance of an 8 inch trace using a top conductive thread from Mitsifuji is 14 ohms.
This sample is sewn on white cotton broad cloth with white felt backing using a white bobbin thread.
Follow your machines specifications for threading using a double needle
On my Bernina 180 I thread the machine with both conductive threads together until final guide and then separate the conductive threads to insert thru the eye of each needle.
Adjust the tension on your machine so that the top conductive thread is not pulled thru on the back and touches each other. If the two threads touch then the circuit will short circuit.
Also note – the white bobbin thread connects both of the upper conductive traces.
Clip the trace ends be sure to secure each conductive thread so that the tails will not touch resulting in a short circuit.
This method is sure to speed up the creation of your next wearable computing project!
Happy sewing!
